Norfolk Pamments - Handmade English Clay Floor Tiles

About Us

Norfolk Pamments has been our family business since 2009, having become a limited company in 2002. Unusually, it is a mother and daughter partnership.

We specialise in making floor tiles by traditional methods which have evolved over centuries, making the best possible use of local clay and local sand to create affordable flooring for vernacular buildings and churches. These days our 'good as old' tiles are used to complement new builds as well as traditional buildings.

We are proud of our skill at transforming mud into tiles of unique character and natural colour with our hands-on approach. Each tile is handled approximately 12 times from start to finish and can be identified as having been made by a particular craftsperson.

Not only are we committed to improving the quality of our workmanship and expertise but we are also continually exploring different regional clays to discover unusual colours and textures.

The basic process of making genuine Norfolk Pamments is ancient. The clay itself is thousands of years old, dotted with tiny fossils, and varies from seam to seam. The variety contributes to the individuality of the pamments.
